However, although I appreciate the effort of trying to pursuade me T5 is ok now, does it really need that extra paragraph to clarify where, when and how they came to the bigger statement?

It's body copy. No-one actually reads it, but it makes the ad look more professional.
Bit like your tetley ad. looks really nice, steapline is cool, if a tad generic. i cant be arsed to read the long copy, but it's nice to know it's there.
I posted that last comment without reading the body copy.
Now i have read it, and seen the others in the campaign.
In answer to your question the answer is definitely YES!
